From 29.10.2018 to 25.11.2018

On the night of 23 May, 1915, financier Pietro Dall’Acqua, together with his comrade Costantino Carta, on guard at the Brazzano bridge over the Judrio river, the border between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire, noticed suspicious movements on the bridge and opened fire.

Those were the first shots fired on the Italian-Austrian front in the First World War.

The exhibition ‘The Guardia di Finanza in the Great War. Da Brazzano sullo Judrio a Trieste (1915-1918)’, which opens on Monday 29 October at 11.00 a.m. in Trieste at the Magazzino delle Idee in Corso Cavour 2.

The exhibition was realised thanks to the collaboration between ERPAC, the Museo Storico delle Fiamme Gialle, the General Command and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Command of the Guardia di Finanza.

In chronological order, the exhibition shows evidence of the episode of the first rifle shot fired by financiers Pietro Dall’Acqua and Costantino Carta on the Judrio river in Brazzano, moving on to the events of the defeat of Caporetto and finally to the ‘home front’, which testifies to the work of the Fiamme Gialle against smuggling.

There is no lack of photographic and documentary evidence, relics and objects of everyday life, as well as newspapers and private correspondence from the period preserved in the Corps Historical Museum. In addition, a space is dedicated to an exhibition of the uniforms used by the Yellow Flames at the time.

The exhibition will be on display until 25 November 2018.

The exhibition is part of the events commemorating the end of the Great War in its centenary year.
