Studies and images of a never-ending story
09.04.2018 to 29.04.2018
The ‘Speleo 2018’ exhibition is an opportunity to approach the natural treasures of the region’s underground heritage and to learn about the activities of cavers, champions of exploration and environmental protection.
The exhibition is organised by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Speleological Federation and the Region at the Magazzino delle Idee in Trieste: it will be open to the public, free of charge, every day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., from 4 to 29 April 2018.
Photos, 3D projections and a conference to rediscover the wonders of the underground world. It will be a unique opportunity, the organisers explain, to ‘immerse oneself in the world of speleology and learn about the history and evolution of this discipline that has been exploring the underground world for 130 years, unveiling its mysteries and incredible beauty’; ‘a unique and special attraction of eco-sustainable tourism’ to ‘make known a passion unknown to many, but extremely valuable, and to show the natural beauties that the underground world holds in store’.
The exhibition shows the most famous caves in the region, from the tourist caves to the less accessible ones, and speleology is presented in its various aspects, from those related to the world of animals to underwater speleology, with an excursus on the history of discoveries and the tools that allow one to penetrate the underground environment, on the neighbouring Slovenian caves and on the ravines used by soldiers during the Great War.
