A photographic journey spanning over one hundred years, punctuated both by the events that placed the city of Trieste at the centre of the international scene and by the stages of its economic, demographic, social and cultural development. A long history seen through the privileged filter of the Wulz family, who for more than a century managed the Trieste photographic atelier of the same name.<\/p>

This is Fotografia Wulz. Trieste, the family, the atelier, the exhibition opening at the Magazzino delle Idee in Trieste on 13 December at 6 pm, curated by Antonio Giusa and Federica Muzzarelli.<\/p>

Organised by the Regional Authority for the Cultural Heritage of Friuli Venezia Giulia, in collaboration with the Alinari Foundation of Florence, the exhibition presents a historical and critical selection of the archives of the Wulz Photographic Studio in Trieste (1868-1981), one of the most important archival complexes preserved today in the Alinari Archives, which have become public property thanks to the acquisition by the Region of Tuscany, which entrusted them to the Alinari Foundation for Photography.<\/p>

The exhibition will be open to the public from 14 December 2024 until 27 April 2025<\/strong>, thus becoming part of the programme of \u2018GO!2025&Friends<\/strong>\u2019, the programme of events connected to the official programme of \u2018GO!2025 Nova Gorica – Gorizia European Capital of Culture\u2019.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Thanks to the critical selection of the Alinari estate<\/strong> made by the two curators and the presence of other materials from public institutions, such as the Wolfsoniana in Genoa<\/strong>, the Museo Revoltella<\/strong> and the Civici Musei di Storia e Arte in Trieste<\/strong>, but also from private collections such as those of the Libreria antiquaria Drogheria 28<\/strong> in Trieste and the Sergio Vatta Collection<\/strong>, this exhibition aims to offer new food for thought and propose new or updated readings of the Wulz’ photographic production. Through almost three hundred pieces, including photographs, negatives, vintage, documents and objects from the archive of the Wulz Photographic Studio, the exhibition gives us a Trieste that is in some ways unprecedented, a city plunged into a crucial historical period in its evolution, the one from the second half of the 19th century to the second half of the 20th century and beyond. The images taken in the last period of the studio’s activity, by sisters Wanda and Marion Wulz, can be read as an opportunity to concretely visualise the progressive changes in the identity of women, who in the first decades of the 20th century undertook one of the most important phases of their journey towards emancipation and independence.<\/p>

The exhibition is supported by Calliope Arts Foundation<\/strong>, an organisation committed to safeguarding and promoting women’s cultural heritage. Calliope edits publications such as The Curators’ Notebook<\/strong>, which will see a new issue dedicated to the Wulz sisters printed for the occasion.<\/p>
