The regional administration, after the success of last year’s edition, which saw the public display of a work by Bernardino Luini, of the Leonardo school, is pleased to continue to enhance the lesser known cultural heritage and to exhibit it in prestigious institutional offices. In this spirit, during the Christmas holidays, the work “Adoration of the Magi” by George Lallemand (c. 1575 – 1636) will be exhibited in the hall of the Palazzo della Regione.
Lallemand is an artist from Lorraine and in the first thirty years of the seventeenth century he was one of the most influential and sought-after painters in Paris, active at the court of Louis XIII and among the elected representatives of the confraternities of Notre-Dame de Paris. His is an eclectic style that combines Flemish realism with mannerist characters, moving from portrait to sacred genre. The painting “Adoration of the Magi” became part of the collections of the Civic Museums of History and Art of Trieste in 1926 thanks to the generous legacy of Bice Hortis and in 2005 it was loaned to the Museo Tesoro dei Granduchi (Museo degli Argenti) at Palazzo Pitti.
